Still looking for clever ways to celebrate Halloween in the classroom? We have come up with four ideas on how to use Creative Teaching Press’ new Happy Halloween Mini Bulletin Board.
Use this bulletin board to show off great work in October, or for a more generic display. For a special touch, connect the hanging spider pieces with colorful ribbon or fishing line for a ‘web’ look. To create the “eyes” in the Spooktacular text, use the commas or periods from the Fancy Black 4″ Designer Letters.
The Spooktaular is written in the Purple Radiant Stars 4″ Designer Letters. Edge the bulletin board with the Orange Fancy Scallops and Purple Wavy (here we used the straight side) Borders to add more color.
BOO-tiful Board & Pennants
Pair the “Boo-tiful”display of student work with the Spooktacular BB. Use the Painted Palette Orange Chart Cards 10″ Designer Cut-Outs for placeholders for each student. Place a binder clip on it for ease of changing their work. Keep a space ready for every child and coordinate by using the painted palette nameplates. For student names, we used the Purple Radiant Stars Name Plates. For the ‘BOO-tiful’ sign, we used the same letters as the Spooktacular board, and placed them on the orange pennants from the Painted Palette Pennants 10″ Cut-Outs. You could create a smaller version by using the 2″ sticker letters and 6″ cut-out versions of these pieces.
Scare Up a Good Story
Create a writing prompt bulletin board. Use the Story Elements Language Arts Mini Bulletin Board Set to introduce story elements. After teaching a mini lesson on the parts of a story with the aid of the Story Elements bulletin board, extend the lesson to independent practice. Set up a bulletin board to encourage writing stories. Change it often to create new characters, settings, and problems by using the Painted Palette Orange Paint Chip Name Plates, programmed with multiple ideas. Simply ring them together to create a quick flip tool for new ideas on the same bulletin board. The stories students will create will vary greatly even though they are all using the same set up for their story.Sorting Center Activity
Create a quick sorting center activity. Use the ghost, bat and jack-o-lantern from the Happy Halloween Mini Bulletin Board set. Provide young children with a variety of Halloween erasers that have the same characters. Have students sort the erasers to the bulletin board accent piece that is similar to it. Extend the activity by having an adult ask questions about the items.
IE: Which one has more? How many more?
Which Halloween character do you like? Why?
Describe the bat.
Act like a ghost.
