As teachers, we get so overwhelmed with creating the environment, thinking about curriculum, and all of the other responsibilities of teaching that we tend to overlook ourselves. We constantly give and give to everyone around us and this includes giving up space for a teacher desk. For years, I didn’t have a teacher desk. Why would I need one? I wanted to utilize the space for my students. I was constantly interacting with my students and moving around. Who has time to sit? If I needed to sit, I could just sit on the floor!
I operated like this for years UNTIL…I moved into a new classroom that had a teacher desk. I asked the custodians to take it out, but they never got around to it. I ended up stuck with the desk.
I came up with an idea…I created a little “teacher area.” I made a u-shape area with my desk, bookshelves, and rolling storage bins. Everything I needed was at my fingertips. I surrounded myself with photos and items that I loved. I quickly realized that I needed this area. I needed a place for ME. When the children were at lunch, recess, Gym, or Music, I would turn the lights off and sit at my desk while soft music played in the background. There were many times during the day that I would often retreat to my special area when children weren’t in the room. I think every teacher needs a place to recharge during the day.
Decorating your desk area should be FUN! Try to make it a place where you feel good!
Creative Teaching Press created products that would look perfect on your desk AND it coordinates with the designer decor collections. You now can have a pretty classroom and a pretty desk! Don’t overlook this space!

Every teacher should enjoy the space that they live in and have an area to call their own.
