Create the ‘Gifts of Love’ interactive bulletin board in your classroom to encourage positive interactions between students this holiday season. The focus of this activity is the gift of giving compliments. Begin by lining the edges of your board with the colorful Presents Border (the new updated version can be found here) for extra holiday spirit. Using 4″ letters, title the board ‘Gifts of Love’.
Label each of the library pockets with a student name (we used the Poppy Red Herringbone and Lime Green Hexagons). Using the elf girl from the ‘Tis The Season Mini Bulletin Board and a Poppy Red Herringbone Name Plate, add a small sign with ‘Leave a compliment for a friend’.
Create a lesson plan about positive behavior, caring, and compliments. Set aside a little time each day for classmates to write compliments for other students and put them in their ‘gift box’ (library pocket). To make sure everyone receives an even amount, you might consider picking names at random or have them write about the student ‘to their right’ or left for example. After a couple of weeks, remove the library pockets and give the student their gift of compliments from the class.
Use the remaining pieces from the ‘Tis The Season Bulletin Board to dress up the blank spaces left on the board.
