Many foods were served at the feast, including corn bread and popcorn! Ask your students to name different food products that are made from corn. List the suggestions on the board.
Some responses might include: corn-on-the-cop, creamed corn, popcorn, corn bread, corn flakes and corn syrup. Then hold a special “corn-tasting feast” in your class!
Create an Indian Mosaic Corn Cobs:
Your class will love making Indian Corn Mosaics for a colorful Thanksgiving display! Teach students that Indian corn is made up of different-colored kernels. This particular type of corn was important to the Indians of the Eastern Woodlands, a group that included the Native Americans who feasted with the Pilgrims. Have students decorate their classroom and homes with these beautiful Indian Mosaic Corn displays!
Have children to tear pieces of yellow, brown, and orange construction paper and glue them on their cob. Encourage children to overlap the paper and completely cover their cob. Tie raffia into bows, and glue a bow to the top of each cob. Display the corncobs on a fall bulletin board.Pin It
